The Cassini spacecraft crossed the plane of Saturns rings in June 2004 ,
The beautiful rings consisting of ice fragments and extending hundreds of thousands of kilometers from the planet , set Saturn apart in our solar system . It was thought that the rings were four billion years old but Cassini found that they are...... 99% pure ice - sparkling like new . They are far too clean and bright to be that old .
